What's New at Logan Lake Books

Update August 14, 2010: Life has sure changed in the last couple of months. The two girls that had work here for years, both left (They are both going to university in the fall and had opportunities that came up for the summer, that they couldn’t pass up. Best of luck to both of them) This means I’ve been training new staff, we will end up with a good team but it has been very stressful. So we haven’t passed the 4500 mark as I had hoped to but they are learning how to enter movies for the website. It won't be long before the numbers start going up.
By demand Merritt has had to expand the movie rental and sale section. This means the part that is  books has been put on the back burner again. This is not a bad thing, because if the store can grow to where it will support more staff then the bookstore with get the attention it needs to get it on line. We are just doing the best we can to serve our customers.

Update May 10, 2010:
Just a quick note to let you know what's been happening. We are closing in on our goal of 4500 items. I have been attempting to enter stock photos on the books. So far all I get is the photo icon but no photos. I’ll have to play with it some more I just hope I know what I did when I get it right. Trying to follow the kiss principle: keep it simple. We are also working on improvements to the Logan Lake Video page.
Merritt book store is still in limbo. It just is caught in one of those, one step forward, two steps back difficulties. The snack bar including hard ice cream is going. And they are doing a movie blowout sale to make so room for new stock. So I know they are busy.

Update February 20, 2010: Well the Vancouver Olympics are a week old, red mitts are everywhere and people are glued to their TVs. Knowing we were going to get hit with an Olympic lull, Logan Lake is working on a full inventory. Once inventory is done we will be adding more movies and books to the site. We have over 4200 items available on the web site and we’re aiming for 4500 before summer. We currently have about 400 units (I’m not sure how many titles that is) in store for sale and many are not online. I know I promised photos last year but it hasn’t gone well for me, (I have to upload each photo to each site separately) I’m still trying to find a better way.
The bookstore in Merritt is getting closer to being open (He keeps telling me it will be open next week, that’s been for the last 2 weeks). I seen it on Wednesday, there is some clean up to do to make it safe for customers but the next weeks are getting very realistic. I know there will be more work on it in the future. In the over all plan; Merritt will be feeding into this site. There is a lot of setup to be done before it gets to that point and I know I will have to get down there to teach the staff how to use the program. Still it will be so nice to have it open.

Update October 10, 2009: Good news we have over 4000 books and about 200 movies on site. Bad news phase 2 of Merritt is still a mess and not any nearer to being open. Not that we haven't been doing other things. Merritt store now has a coffee bar area (which took far longer to put together then expected). Starting a lot of projects this month, including adding photos to the web site, getting a nestle cooler in the store (Haagen Dazs!). I try to get back to you when more of it is figured out.
